Tour Highlights
The Trossachs, Rob Roy MacGregors Grave, The Falls of Dochart, Loch Tay, The Crannog Centre, Dewars World of Whisky, Mount Schiehallion, The Queens View overlooking Loch Tummel and Perthshire
A tour that has something for all the family. Ancient dwellings where young and old can learn about life during the Iron Age. A nature trail which is home to the red squirrel and for those who are over 18 years of age, an optional distillery tour of one of the greatest scotch whisky brands ever.
Departing Glasgow we head for Rob Roy Country and the Trossachs. The Trossachs are often regarded as the ‘Highlands in miniature’. Here the contrast between Highlands and Lowlands is stark as you leave the pretty village of Aberfoyle to climb up through the dramatic Duke’s Pass.
On route to Loch Tay and Kenmore we will make a brief stop at Balquhidder to visit the grave of Rob Roy. We will pass through the attractive village of Killin, the focal point being the narrow stone bridge over the River Dochart, where there are a spectacular series of rapids that carry the river under the bridge.
Our next stop is at the Scottish Crannog Centre in Kenmore.
A Crannog is a type of ancient loch-dwelling found throughout Scotland and Ireland dating from 5,000 years ago. Many Crannogs were built out in the water as defensive homesteads and represented symbols of power and wealth. Take a look at some of the underwater discoveries, walk over water into the Iron Age on your Crannog tour.
From Loch Tay we make the short drive to Aberfeldy and Dewars world of whisky where visitors can relax, have lunch or a coffee. Experience an optional guided distillery tour where you can see the Aberfeldy spirit being produced and have the chance to taste a selection of whiskies in the nosing and tasting bar. Outside the adventure continues with a nature trail that is also home to the red squirrel.
Leaving Aberfeldy we head northwards to see Mount Schiehallion - Mount Zion of the far north which is the geographical centre of Scotland. We continue to Loch Tummel and take in the Queens View, one of the most outstanding beauty spots in all of Scotland. From here we will make our return to Glasgow passing through the pretty town of Pitlochry before we stop for refreshments in the rolling hills of Perthshire.
