Driver Guides

We are currently recruiting permanent full and part-time Driver Guides at both our Glasgow and Edinburgh bases.

To be able to drive our mini coaches you must hold a Category D1 or D licence. Whilst this is an essential requirement, training to gain your category D1 licence may be offered to the right candidate/applicant.

Who are Discover Scotland Tours?

Discover Scotland Tours are a family-owned business and have been operating a variety of tours throughout Scotland since 2006.

Our tours take in the very best of what Scotland has to offer, but it’s our driver-guides who enhance our visitors experience by providing a fun and informative insight into Scotland’s rich history, ancient culture, and breath-taking natural landscapes.


Essential Requirements

  • A Category D1 or D licence
  • You need to be outgoing, confident and have a passion for Scotland with a welcoming personality.
  • Have some knowledge of Scotland’s traditions, history and culture, and be able to communicate this to people from all over the world in an entertaining manner.
  • Be able to demonstrate exceptional customer service.
  • To work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability.

Qualified PCV Driver Salary & Benefits

  • £13.00 per hour-works out annually between £29,000-£33,000

Becoming a Driver-Guide

Being a driver-guide with Discover Scotland Tours is about much more than being able to drive our modern fleet of Mercedes 16 seat mini coaches.

  • Complete daily vehicle walk round safety checks on company app
  • Drive with due care and attention ensuring the safety and comfort of our passengers.
  • Lead, guide, and drive small groups around Scotland, helping to create lifelong memories to visitors from all over the world.
  • Continually look to improve your historical and cultural knowledge.

Trainee PCV Driver

To become a trainee driver with Discover Scotland Tours you must be aged at least 21. Have held a full UK driving licence for more than 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.

You will receive all the necessary training, from obtaining your provisional licence to becoming fully qualified to drive our 16 seat mini coaches.


What can I expect to earn whilst training to gain my PCV licence

You will be paid a training rate of £10.65 per hour whilst working towards gaining your PCV Category D1 licence.


How long will it take to gain my PCV Driver Licence

We would expect your training to take approximately 4-6 weeks. On qualification your rate will rise to £13.00 per hour.
