Discover Scotland Tours Events

Scotland is as famous for its festivals, folklore and fairy tales as it is for its mountains, glens, whisky and tartan. At Discover Scotland Tours we’re passionate about our country’s spectacular scenery and natural beauty, but we also want to share our customs and traditions with our guests.

Whether you’re an overseas visitor, from other parts of the UK or you’re a local, our new events programme will take you behind the scenery to help you experience the authentic Scotland.

You’ll get a flavour of the best of Scotland’s unique festivals, celebrations and traditions. As with all of our tours, you’ll be transported by a modern Mercedes Benz luxury mini coach with the services of an experienced and knowledgeable driver-guide.

Our events calendar is being continually updated so please check our website for the latest information or phone our dedicated tours staff.

For an authentic Scottish experience we’ll take you to a Highland Games, a colourful gathering of pipe bands, Highland dancing and competitions such as tossing the caber and throwing the hammer. Another classic summer event is the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a spectacular international pageant of marching bands, musicians and dancers, all in the dramatic floodlit setting of Edinburgh Castle.

For a more intimate experience join us for dinner and an evening of live music at a traditional Highland inn. Our hostelries have a vibrant music scene covering everything from folk to rock. On St Andrew’s Day (30 November) and Burns Night (25 January) we celebrate our national saint and our national bard with food, music, song and storytelling. Put on some tartan and join us at a Burns Supper where the traditional dish of haggis is served to the sound of the bagpipes and the poetry and songs of Rabbie Burns are performed.

If you feel energetic you might fancy a ceilidh night, another sociable gathering that has traditional music and dancing at its heart. Of course, these quintessentially Scottish nights wouldn’t be complete without a dram of Scotch whisky, our national drink that’s crafted in over 120 distilleries. Visit our website to learn more about whisky distillery tours and events.

If you enjoy the outdoors try our after-dark events where a stroll through the forest comes to life with twinkling lights, atmospheric music and perhaps even spooky fairy tales and ghost stories. On a clear, dark night look skywards to behold the millions of stars of the Milky Way galaxy. Thanks to the lack of light pollution, Scotland has two international Dark Sky Parks. Galloway Forest Park in south west Scotland was the first forest park in the UK to receive Dark Sky Park status. Scotland’s second is the Tomintoul & Glenlivet – Cairngorms Dark Sky Park which is not only the darkest park in the UK but also the most northernly Dark Sky Park in the world.

Scotland’s cosmopolitan capital city is the world’s leading ‘Festival City’ drawing visitors all year round to its arts, music, film, book, science and Hogmanay events.

Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels, towers over the city’s medieval wynds while a few streets away lies the elegant architecture of the Georgian New Town. You can catch a glimpse into Royal life with a tour of the 17th century Palace of Holyroodhouse and be mesmerised by the panoramic views from Calton Hill and Arthur’s Seat. There are world-class museums and art galleries, renowned restaurants, traditional Scottish pubs and, of course, Harry Potter-themed attractions in the city where the epic books began.
