Where is Loch Lomond?
Loch Lomond is situated north west of Glasgow. It takes around 40 minutes to drive from the city to the southern tip of the loch.
What size is the loch?
The loch is 36km long and 8km wide at parts. It has the largest surface area of any loch in Great Britain.
How deep is the loch?
The deepest point of the loch is 190m. That’s enough to cover two Big Bens!
Does it have its own monster?
Sadly it does not. One of the loch islands is home to a colony of wallabies however which is pretty strange for Scotland! There are also many local myths and folklore tales surrounding the loch too.
Is Loch Lomond in a National Park?
Yes, the loch has been part of Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park since 2002. Most of the park sits to the east of the loch and contains many other smaller lochs, villages and forests.

Are there Whisky Distilleries near Loch Lomond?
Yes, while there currently aren’t any distilleries on the banks of the loch there are 2 distilleries around a 20 minute drive from the southern tip of the loch. There is also a distillery within the National Park too.
Glen Luss Distillery will be opening in the village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond soon. That will be an exciting new development for the area.
Glengoyne Distillery is the oldest in the area and has been producing whisky since 1833. Now visitors can participate in both tours and tastings when they visit.
Are there Castles near Loch Lomond?
Yes, the town at the southern tip of the loch is called Balloch which has been home to Balloch Castle since the early 19th century. The interior is no longer accessible but you can get a great photo.
Doune Castle is also a short drive away within the Trossachs National Park. It was featured in both the Game of Thrones and Outlander TV Series and is a very popular location for fans.
