Scotland’s Chocolatiers

Scotland is known for many things around the world such as tartan, whisky and haggis. However, we do in fact have a number of wonderful Scottish chocolatiers too that create delicious treats.

Most of the Scottish chocolatiers are independent small businesses. They create great products which you can purchase online or in person. It’s the perfect gift for yourself or if you are willing to share, your friends and family.

Today we want to highlight two small business chocolatiers which our tours passengers often visit.

Chocolates of Glensheil

Chocolates of Glenshiel is a highland chocolatier based in the Glenshiel area nearby to the Isle of Skye. Finlay Macdonald founded the company when he was only 16 years old. They have featured in The Herald, the Scotsman and BBC News among other media outlets.

If you are lucky enough to visit the area in person then you can peak through the cabin windows at the chocolate creations coming to life.

Their online shop features a number of different ranges of their handmade chocolates which come in dark, white and milk chocolate. Currently they have a wide range available including classic flavours, a local selection as well as gin and whisky options for the adults. Additionally, they have bars of chocolate too, with highland roast coffee and haggis spice being among the options. There really is something for everyone.

Oban Chocolate Company

Award winning Oban Chocolate Company is another small independent business that our passengers can visit while on tour in the Scottish Highlands. Helen their chocolatier studied in Glasgow before opening a shop in Oban back in 2003. GoEuro guide featured then in their top ten most delicious chocolate shops in Europe.

If you a have the opportunity to visit in person then you can enjoy a treat in their café such as their rich hot chocolate available in milk, white or dark chocolate. You can watch the chocolatiers at work in their chocolate factory too. Their shop has a 5 star rating from VisitScotland our Tourist Board so you’re sure to have a lovely experience.

There’s also an online shop for those further away. They offer a selection of handmade chocolates either pre-boxed or ‘build your own’. There’s chocolate bars, hampers, celebration cakes and wedding favours too. They also have vegan & dairy fee options for those with dietary requirements. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
