Just 40 minutes from Glasgow and we reach our first stop of the day. Here we’ll enjoy morning refreshments on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond with some wonderful views looking over to Ben Lomond.
As we travel through Rannoch Moor towards Glencoe, your driver-guide will point out Buachaille Etive Mor, this is where 007 and M drove to reach ‘Skyfall’. This area was also used in many scenes from the Harry Potter films and you’ll have time here to savour the stunning scenery of Scotland’s most famous glen.
From Fort William we’ll travel the ‘Road to the Isles’, to Mallaig, one of Scotland’s most scenic routes. This takes us past Loch Eilt another ‘Harry Potter’ location where Hagrid was seen skimming stones across the water. Nearby, you’ll see Eilean na Moine which is the final resting place of Dumbledore.
Reaching the Silver Sands of Morar you’ll think you’re in the Caribbean. Take a short stroll along the glistening sand with its turquoise waters looking over to the small isles.
At Mallaig we’ll have time to explore this beautiful little fishing port whilst enjoying some local fish and chips.
For many the highlight of the journey is Glenfinnan, and we schedule our arrival here to see the Jacobite Steam Train cross the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct as seen in the Harry Potter movies.
On one side you have views of the Glenfinnan Viaduct curving through the glen in a scene immortalised as the route to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts. On the other side you have stunning views of the Glenfinnan Monument standing at the head of Loch Shiel.
Loch Shiel (the ’Black Lake’) was also used in many Harry Potter films such as The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Half-Blood Prince. It was also used in a scene from the Triwizard Tournament in The Goblet of Fire.
Our last stop is at the Drovers Inn, a traditional Scottish pub and historic resting point for weary travellers of old. Enjoy an evening refreshment in front of a roaring log fire once enjoyed by the infamous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor.
Please Note:
* The Jacobite Steam Train doesn’t operate from 28th Oct 2023 until the beginning of April 2024. You will still be able see the Glenfinnan Viaduct & visit Glenfinnan Monument.

My friends and I had a wonderful time on the trip, everything was organized perfectly, and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. Everything was timed perfectly and our tour guide was very helpful at all the stops, helped us get to the viewpoints that were a bit harder to reach, and gave us great recommendations. He was very accommodating towards the end and made sure everyone was able to get to the right stop and avoid the rain as much as possible. If we had more time, we would have booked the other 3 trips your company offers as well. We all had an amazing time, and bonus points for our great tour guide! 🙂

We would rate our tour and tour guide a 12 out of ten if we could. John was a great guide who was knowledgeable, funny and aimed to please. We loved the tour and without him sharing his expertise it wouldn’t have meant as much. John was also very compassionate as my wife suffered a severe migraine attack on the way back. He went out of his way to assist in her comfort.
I will definitely recommend your tour company to anyone and already have to friends that are coming to Scotland in May this year. Thank You,

I just wished to relay the entire group’s joy and gratitude at providing such a wonderful and memorable experience. Dave has been a hilarious, friendly, extremely informative and wholesome guide. As an ardent lover of all things music and history, besides taking in the beauty of all the Lochs, Mountains, pleasant winds and the mesmerising expanse of the highlands and the sea, the (carefully curated?) playlist and commentary that accompanied it really enhanced the overall experience and we definitely see ourselves coming for more in the future years.

Our trip was fantastic! We had a really good day and John our driver made it extra special with his knowledge and patter. Just what we needed coming back home from Australia after 14 yrs. Already recommended it to family & friends and told them to ask for John as their driver.

Let me start by saying that the trip (and Gary) made our day! I went on the day trip to glencoe and Mallaig and glenfinnan with my brother and what an amazing experience!!! As amazing as the places were , Gary made them even more interesting and (funny!). He took extra care of all those on the tour. Must do for any HARRY POTTER FAN OUT THERE!! The trip did cover a lot of places but did not feel cramped or hurried at all. I would definitely recommend them for being so punctual, informative and freaking awesome 😎

The day tour from Glasgow to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, Mallaig and Glencoe was a spectacular journey. Our local guide, Dave was thoughtful and caring as well as entertaining and informative. Dave did his best to arrange the stops in concert with the sunny breaks so we’d enjoy them and get the best photos possible. It was the easiest day of our holiday as everything was taken care of for us! Funny thing was, I’d seen a number of recommendations by travel vloggers to go to Mallaig by rail and that had been my plan but for the ScotRail strike. We ultimately lucked out because the seats were more comfortable, we got music, colour commentary and weren’t stuck in a train for 5 hours each way…that plus fantastic pictures.

The trip to Glenfinnan Mallaig and Glencoe was the highlight of my trip to Scotland. Our tour leader was cheery, knowledgeable, and absolutely the best. We managed to cover all the promised spots and had an extra stop at Hagrid’s cabin. In fact, I find myself advertising your trip to all my friends back home 🙂

The tour was excellent – Colin was superb! He had so many stories to tell us about the things we were seeing and also his knowledge of history and Scottish culture was great. The only thing I can say is keep Colin! He is great! 😊
25/08/22 – Leon
Our experience was, in short, great. Our driver Dave was cheerful, patient and filled with knowledge about Scottish history and nature. He’s an entertainer and a legend as well. The itinerary was nice. Scottish nature is astonishing and even more important – unique. It is true that weather can change quite quickly, but I wouldn’t say that was an issue. We experienced it all, rain and sunshine, and I wouldn’t have changed it one bit. You just have to see it. Taking this tour is one of the best ways to explore Scotland and I couldn’t recommend it more.
17/08/22 – Gery & Suzanne
We were delighted with our day tour last week. John the driver kept us happy, safe & entertained. We would recommend Discover Scotland to family & friends. Having smaller coaches made the day trip much more personable. Thank you,
FAQs
The Jacobite Steam Train is scheduled to operate from April 3rd 2023 – 27th October 2023. We aim to reach Glenfinnan in time to see the train crossing (subject to the train operating per their timetable). There is a great viewpoint to get photos of the train as it travels across the viaduct.
The train does not operate from 28th October 2023- April 2024. During this time our tour still visits the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct & Monument
Seats are chosen on a first come first serve basis, we are unable to take requests for specific seats. Our mini coaches all have panoramic windows so the beautiful Scottish landscape can always be enjoyed, no matter where you sit.
If you suffer from motion sickness, then you may be affected by the roads in Scotland. They can be twisty and narrow. It’s best to come prepared with a travel sickness preventative, whether that be medicinal, wristbands or another option, to ensure it doesn’t impact your overall enjoyment of the tour.
