Tour Itinerary

Loch Lomond & Ben Lomond

Leaving Glasgow, we travel north along the shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland’s largest freshwater loch and the gateway to the Highlands.

Following the famous bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, enjoy sweeping views across the water towards Ben Lomond, the most southerly Munro in Scotland and one of the country’s most recognisable mountains.

Rest and Be Thankful

Continuing through the dramatic Arrochar Alps, we stop at the famous Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint.

Named after weary soldiers who built the military road here in the 18th century, this spectacular pass offers panoramic views across one of Scotland’s most beautiful Highland glens.

Inveraray

Next we arrive in the picturesque town of Inveraray, founded in the 18th century by the Duke of Argyll, chief of the powerful Clan Campbell.

You’ll have time to explore the town, visit Inveraray Castle (optional entry) or discover the fascinating stories inside Inveraray Jail.

Please note: Inveraray Castle is open seasonally and is usually closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. When the castle is closed, you will still have time to explore the town and enjoy views of the castle exterior.

Kilchurn Castle

Our journey continues to the shores of Loch Awe, where we stop to admire the dramatic ruins of Kilchurn Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles.

Surrounded by mountains and reflected in the still waters of the loch, this atmospheric 15th-century fortress provides one of the most iconic Highland photo opportunities.

Oban

Around lunchtime we arrive in the coastal town of Oban, often known as the Gateway to the Isles.

Enjoy free time to explore the harbour, sample fresh seafood or climb to McCaig’s Tower for spectacular views across Oban Bay and the Hebrides.

Leaving Oban, we continue north with a photo stop overlooking Castle Stalker, a picturesque medieval tower house standing on its own small tidal islet off Scotland’s west coast.

Glencoe

Our return journey takes us through the breathtaking valley of Glencoe, surrounded by towering mountains and waterfalls.

Your driver-guide will share the tragic story of the 1692 Glencoe Massacre, when government troops turned on their hosts, Clan MacDonald, in one of the darkest chapters in Highland history.

From here we continue south through the Highlands before returning to Glasgow in the evening.
