Tour Overview

Experience the beauty of the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye on our Isle of Skye, the Highlands & Loch Ness 4 Day Tour from Edinburgh.

This small-group adventure takes you deep into Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes, from the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and the haunting beauty of Glencoe, to the magical scenery of Skye and the legendary waters of Loch Ness.

On the first day we travel west from Edinburgh to Glasgow, where we collect additional passengers before continuing north into the Highlands. From here the journey takes us through Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, the wild landscapes of Rannoch Moor, and the famous glen of Glencoe before reaching Glenfinnan, where the viaduct, monument and views across Loch Shiel combine Highland history with a touch of film magic.

Crossing the Skye Bridge, you’ll spend three nights on one of the world’s most captivating islands, giving you more time to explore its dramatic coastlines, mountain scenery and legendary landscapes.

Day two is dedicated to the best of Skye, including the beautiful Fairy Pools, the colourful harbour town of Portree, and the spectacular landscapes of the Trotternish Peninsula, home to the Quiraing, Kilt Rock, Mealt Falls and the Old Man of Storr.

On day three you continue exploring Skye with visits to the dramatic cliffs of Neist Point and Dunvegan Castle, ancestral home of Clan MacLeod. Time on Skye also includes a visit to Talisker Distillery, where you can enjoy a tasting and, depending on availability, may also be able to join a tour.

On the final day we leave Skye behind and return through some of Scotland’s most iconic scenery, stopping at Eilean Donan Castle, the shores of Loch Ness, and the vast wilderness of the Cairngorms National Park before returning to Edinburgh in the evening.

From Glenfinnan and the Isle of Skye to Loch Ness and the Cairngorms, this 4 day tour combines legendary landscapes, famous landmarks and island scenery at a relaxed pace.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Loch Lomond→ Glencoe → Glenfinnan Viaduct → Skye

Your journey starts in Edinburgh, travelling west through Glasgow and into Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Our first stop is the conservation village of Luss, nestled on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, where you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings and admire views across one of Scotland’s most beautiful lochs.

Travelling deeper into the Highlands, we cross the remote beauty of Rannoch Moor before reaching Glencoe, Scotland’s most famous glen. As the mountains close in, your driver-guide will share the tragic story of the Glencoe Massacre of 1692, one of the most haunting episodes in Highland history.

Continuing through Fort William beneath Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, we travel west to Glenfinnan. Here you can enjoy views across Loch Shiel and the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, known around the world from the Harry Potter films and the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Before reaching Skye, we travel through Glens Garry and Shiel and enjoy views of Loch Duich and the dramatic Five Sisters of Kintail before crossing the Skye Bridge and settling in for the night on the island.

Day 2 – Fairy Pools → Portree → Fairy Glen → Quiraing → Kilt Rock

Today is dedicated to the enchanting Isle of Skye, with your driver-guide shaping the day to make the most of the weather and ensure you experience the very best of the island.

One of Skye’s most famous sights is the dramatic Black Cuillin mountain range. At its base lie the beautiful Fairy Pools, a series of crystal-clear waterfalls and rock pools that have become one of the island’s most iconic natural attractions.

Later, we enjoy free time in Portree, Skye’s colourful harbour town, where you’ll have time for lunch, a stroll around the waterfront and a chance to browse local craft shops.

In the afternoon we explore the spectacular Trotternish Peninsula, taking in the dramatic landscapes of the Quiraing, Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, and photo stops at some of Skye’s most famous viewpoints, including the Old Man of Storr, before returning to our accommodation on Skye.

Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye

Day 3 – Neist Point → Dunvegan Castle → Talisker Distillery

Today we continue exploring the Isle of Skye, travelling to Neist Point, the island’s most westerly headland, where towering cliffs and sweeping sea views create one of Skye’s most spectacular coastal landscapes. This is also one of the best places on the island to spot marine wildlife, including dolphins, porpoises and seabirds

We then visit Dunvegan Castle, the ancestral seat of Clan MacLeod, which has been continuously occupied for over 800 years. Surrounded by gardens, woodland and lochside scenery, it is one of Skye’s most important historic sites.

Your driver-guide will let you know where we stop for lunch today. We also visit Talisker Distillery, where you can enjoy a tasting and, depending on availability, you may be able to join a tour.

Please note: Dunvegan Castle is closed from mid-October until April. During this period, your driver-guide will adapt the day’s itinerary and, where possible, offer alternative stops.

Day 4 – Fort Augustus → Loch Ness → Cairngorms → Perthshire

Leaving Skye, we cross back to the mainland via the Skye Bridge and stop at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks, standing proudly where three sea lochs meet.

From here we continue to Fort Augustus on the southern shore of Loch Ness, where you can enjoy lunch, stroll beside the Caledonian Canal, or take an optional cruise on Scotland’s most legendary loch.

Our journey then takes us through the dramatic landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park, passing forests, mountains and Highland scenery as we make our way south through the Highlands.

Before returning to Edinburgh, we stop in Perthshire for a final refreshment break. Arriving back in Edinburgh in the evening, you’ll leave with lasting memories of Skye, Loch Ness and the Scottish Highlands.
